Size guide

Find your size here, then check the chart on the product page you are buying from. The same letter can mean different measurements on different brands, so the figure matters more than the letter. The store lists sizes in inches, so every chart shows inches first with centimetres beside them.

Find your size

Hi-vis, jackets, coveralls and waistcoats

Most hi-vis and outerwear lines (including Black Knight, Hydra Matrix, Hydra Flex, Duobright, Hercules, Orbit and GORE-TEX) use this chart. Some lines add XS or 5XL, shown in the notes.

Some lines also offer XS (32, 81 cm) and 5XL (62/64, 157/163 cm). Check the size selector on the product page.

Orbit's own guide. Orbit International, who supply Black Knight, Hydra Matrix, Hydra Flex, Duobright, Hercules, GORE-TEX and Pro Rail, publish a "to fit" chest guide for jackets. It is approximate, and at the smaller sizes it reads higher than our selector:

Orbit publishes these in inches. The centimetres are converted by us. If your chest is between two sizes, take the larger, or email sales@egclothing.co.uk with your chest measurement before you order.

Orbit's guide for coveralls matches our selector (XS 32, S 34/36, M 38/40, L 42/44, XL 46/48, 2XL 50/52, 3XL 54/56, 4XL 58). For hi-vis polos, T-shirts, sweatshirts and fleeces it lists XS 34-36, S 36, M 38-40, L 42, XL 44-46, 2XL 48, 3XL 50-52, 4XL 54-56 and 5XL 58 (in inches, approximate).

Pro RTX High Visibility (waistcoats, bomber jacket, fleece, polo, T-shirt) uses a different chart:

The Pro RTX High Visibility Waistcoat also comes in 6XL (64, 163 cm).

Polos, T-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies

These charts are brand-specific. Find the brand named on your product. Figures are inches with centimetres beside them.

Larger sizes: Tee Jays on some lines add 4XL (50/52, 127/132 cm) and 5XL (53/55, 135/140 cm). Pro RTX adds 4XL (54/56, 137/142 cm), 5XL (58/60, 147/152 cm), 6XL (61/63, 155/160 cm) and 7XL (64/68, 163/173 cm), plus XS (33/34, 84/86 cm) on some styles. The Pro RTX Pro Polo (RX101) also comes in 8XL (70/76, 178/193 cm), in Black and Navy only. Some lines show letters only (for example the Pro RTX Pro 1/4 Neck Zip Sweatshirt: S to 4XL). Ask us if you are unsure.

Tee Jays' own garment measurements. Tee Jays publish a size sheet for each style. It gives the width of the garment laid flat, measured across the chest in centimetres (the "half chest width"), plus lengths. Double the half chest width for the whole way around the garment. Tee Jays say measurements may vary by plus or minus 5%. A few popular styles:

Tee Jays' sheets show garment measurements, not the "to fit" chest figures in our size selector. If you are between sizes on a Tee Jays garment, compare the half chest width with a garment of yours that fits well, or email sales@egclothing.co.uk and we will check the style for you.

Trousers, shorts and overalls

The letters mean different waists on different trousers. A Large is 36/38 (91/97 cm) on over trousers and chef trousers, but 34 (86 cm) on Pro RTX workwear trousers. Match the figure.

Orbit's own trouser guide. For workwear trousers and shorts, Orbit gives the waist to fit in centimetres: 28 in is 71 cm, 30 is 76, 32 is 81, 34 is 86, 36 is 91, 38 is 96, 40 is 101, 42 is 106, 44 is 112, 46 is 117, 48 is 122 and 50 is 127. Orbit's inside legs are 29 in (74 cm) short, 31 in (79 cm) regular and 33 in (84 cm) tall. Orbit publishes those legs in inches, so the centimetres are converted by us. For Orbit ladies work trousers, dress size 8 is a 26.5 in (67.5 cm) waist, 10 is 28 in (71 cm), 12 is 29 in (74 cm), 14 is 31 in (79 cm), 16 is 33 in (84 cm), 18 is 36 in (91.5 cm), 20 is 39 in (99 cm), 22 is 40.5 in (103 cm), 24 is 43 in (109 cm), 26 is 45.5 in (116 cm) and 28 is 48 in (123 cm). The ladies legs are 27 in (69 cm) short, 29 in (74 cm) regular and 31 in (79 cm) tall (centimetres converted by us). Orbit says all its sizes are approximate.

Formal shirts and blouses

• Men's shirts: collar size in inches, 14 to 22 including half sizes (36 to 56 cm).
• Pilot shirts: the size selector shows the collar in inches with a second figure beside it (for example 15" - 38). The second figure looks like the collar in centimetres, rounded, but our store does not say so. Orbit's own guide lists collar sizes in centimetres and agrees for most sizes (for example 15 in is 38 cm). A few differ by 1 cm: Orbit gives 35 cm for 14 in, 44 cm for 17.5 in and 49 cm for 19.5 in, where our selector shows 36, 45 and 50. Use the inch collar size and match it to a shirt that fits you well. If you are unsure, email sales@egclothing.co.uk before you order.
• Blouses (Orbit pilot blouses and Smart Wear blouses): the size selector shows a UK dress size with an inch figure beside it (for example 12 - 36", 91 cm). The inch figure is the bust to fit, as Orbit's own guide lists it: dress size 8 is a 32 in (81 cm) bust, 10 is 34 (86), 12 is 36 (91), 14 is 38 (97), 16 is 40 (102), 18 is 42 (107), 20 is 44 (112), 22 is 46 (117), 24 is 48 (122), 26 is 50 (127), 28 is 52 (132) and 30 is 54 (137). Those centimetres are Orbit's own. Orbit says sizes are approximate, so if you are between two sizes email sales@egclothing.co.uk before you order.

Healthcare, beauty and ladies tunics and dresses

Behrens scrub tops (Contrast Trim Smart Scrub Top) are sized by chest. Both rows are Behrens' own published figures and match the size selector.

These dresses come in three lengths: Short (100cm), Regular (106cm) and Tall (112cm).

Tulip men's tunics show a number in the selector that is the chest in inches, from 34 (86 cm) to 56 (142 cm). Orbit's own guide lists male tunics by chest in inches (30 to 52, XXS to 4XL), so that is the measurement to match, though it does not cover the largest sizes we stock (centimetres converted by us). Orbit scrub trousers are listed by waist in inches: XS 26 (66 cm), S 28-30 (71-76 cm), M 32-34 (81-86 cm), L 36-38 (91-97 cm), XL 40-42 (102-107 cm), 2XL 44-46 (112-117 cm), 3XL 48-50 (122-127 cm), 4XL 52-54 (132-137 cm) and 5XL 56 (142 cm), approximate, centimetres converted by us.

Other tunics, dresses and scrubs use UK dress sizes (4 to 32), sometimes with an inch figure (for example 12 - 36", 91 cm). We have not yet confirmed what that inch figure measures on Tulip, Finesse and La Beeby dresses and tunics, so go by the dress size and check the chart on the product page. Aprons, headwear and accessories

Aprons, caps and bags are One Size. Gloves are S/M or L/XL. Tabards are S to 3XL. Check the product page for the adjustable fittings.

The same size can mean different things on different brands

A Large is not the same everywhere on our store. Here is what the size selector shows for a Large:

This is why we show the figure in the selector, not just the letter. Always match your measurement to the figure on the product you are buying.

How to measure

You only need a soft tape measure and five minutes. Measure over your normal work clothes, not over a thick jumper. Keep the tape level and snug, but not tight. Your tape can be in inches or centimetres: every chart on this page shows inches first, as the store lists them, with centimetres beside them.

The centimetre figures on this page are converted from the inch figures shown in the store's size selectors (at 2.54 cm per inch, rounded to the nearest whole centimetre). They are conversions, not figures measured by us or the brand, except where a row or sentence says they are the brand's own (Behrens, Orbit, Tee Jays). Where Pro RTX publishes garment measurements in centimetres, those appear on the product page charts as the brand's own figures.

• Chest: around the fullest part of your chest, under your arms, with the tape level across your back. Breathe normally.
• Waist: around your natural waistline, roughly level with your belly button. For work trousers, measure where you actually wear them.
• Hips: around the fullest part of your seat, keeping the tape level.
• Inside leg: from the top of your inner thigh down to the ankle bone, or measure a pair of trousers that already fits you well.
• Collar: around the base of your neck where the collar sits, leaving room for one finger under the tape.

Buying for a team? Ask each person for their chest and waist measurement rather than their usual size. Usual sizes differ between brands. A tape measure does not.

Choosing between sizes

• Match your measurements to the chart on the product page. Do not rely on the size you take elsewhere.
• Between two sizes? Size up. Workwear is worn for full shifts and often layered, so a little extra room beats a garment that binds by the end of the day.
• Hi-vis and outerwear: if it will go over a fleece or jumper, go one size up from your measured chest.

Ordering branded garments

Embroidered and printed garments cannot be returned, so confirm your size before we add your logo. The one exception is faulty or misprinted goods, which can still be returned. Email sales@egclothing.co.uk with your order number and the reason.

1. Order one blank garment first. Try it on over what will be worn underneath.
2. Then place your branded order. Once the size is right, we brand the full run knowing every size is correct.
3. Need a mix of sizes? Email sales@egclothing.co.uk and we will take your order directly, including mixed sizes.

If the size is wrong

You must request a return or cancellation within 14 days of receiving your order, and you then have a further 14 days to send the goods back to us, 28 days in total. Return postage is paid by you unless the item is faulty. We cannot accept returns or give refunds for embroidered or branded items. The exception is faulty or misprinted goods, which can still be returned. Please read our Returns page before ordering.
